The Justice R. Killebrew Exceptional Human Award Ceremony

The Justice R. Killebrew Exceptional Human Award was born out of a desire to find light during the uncertainty of the pandemic. As we watched our son, J, navigate the rigors of a diploma track through the isolation of COVID-19, we saw him grow up right before our eyes.

​Beyond the screen and the schoolwork, J was processing the heavy emotional weight of the world around him—confronting the realities of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor while finding his own voice and footing. We started this award to celebrate his bravery, resilience, and heart during such a formative, challenging time.

​When we honored J, he told us it made him feel truly seen and appreciated. But more than that, he wanted others to feel that same spark of joy. Inspired by his selflessness, we expanded this mission to ensure that other exceptional individuals with special needs are recognized for their courage…
